Moving from the EB-2 to the EB-1 extraordinary ability is possible. It requires thinking about your professional feats in comparison to others within your particular field and niche. So if you were petitioned for under EB-2 as a mechanical engineer with 5 years progressive experience in subsea engineering, you have to be able to think about your true expertise to make the leap into Eb-1. What kind of subsea engineering areas are you an expert in? What kinds of projects have you worked on - have they been financially important for your company? Do you know an area of subsea engineering that no one else knows? Were you placed on particular projects because of your expertise/mastery?
All of these questions need to be asked and vetted by an experienced immigration attorney who has expertise in EB-1s. I have this expertise and I go through these conversations every day with prospective Eb-1 beneficiaries. You have to go with an attorney who can see you and how you fit within your industry to be able to explain your place, your feats and your original contributions to the field. Good luck!
