Please note I am not a lawyer therefore this does not constitute legal advice. From what I understand there’s no official set amount for the E-2 visa but the amount does need to be ‘substantial’. The lower the amount the tougher it’ll be to argue that your business isn’t marginal and will be in a position to create jobs for Americans (the spirit of this visa). For certain types of business it may be possible to argue that $50k is enough. You’ll have a much easier time with a larger amount though.
From my own experience, when I filed for this visa I capitalised and invested closer to $110k into my busines. This was for a service based company with low overheads (besides staff costs). The business plan was thorough. All in all we submitted over 700 pages in the application. It took considerable time. This application was successful (US Embassy London).
Definitely find yourself a good lawyer who can help you package this together
